AC ACE BADGES
Here you'll find reference for AC ACE badges - some to go on our car. I'll also include keyring any anything else here that resembles an AC badge.
The prized AC Owners Club Badge
Very rare and not often seen. These badges not command high prices if you can find one. eBay is probably the best source. There are many copies and originals are few and far between. The original badge below in its original packaging dated 1959 I picked up on ebay.
Replica versus the real thing.
Brass & Enamel AC Owners Club Badge
Chrome & Paint AC Owners Club Badge
This one below is our badge.
This badge can not be enamelled like the early badges. Enamel badge restoration in the UK is done at Pamela David Enamels. Our plan is to paint ours. I will use enamel paint. It will mean mixing colours, sanding back the edging. Letting the enamel dry is a slow process. It has to be hard enough to sand the raised sections. The badge has been cleaned. The reverse was polished as best it could be on a wheel. The paints applied using a pipette into the reservoirs.

AC ACE J Fray Badges
Another AC badge that is getting harder to find. These were used on the AC ACE one the bonnet and boot (Trunk). I saw the front embellishment on an AC 2 Litre on Ebay sell for £60. If you can find one of these it contains the 2 correct badges for the AC ACE. At the time of writing this, an AC 2 litre front embellishment sells for around £60-£200. The individual badges are anywhere from £20 - £69. You can see the AC 2litre embellishment in the picture below. To remove the badges takes a bit of patience and is achieved by getting long nose pillars or a spanner (Very tight fit with a spanner as no room to turn the spanner) on the nut on the back of the badge - be careful and take your time.
The badges at the top are original J Fray Ltd, Birmingham, badges. The badges below could be copies.
There is a big difference between the two. The front has more texture. The rear is stamped J Fray Ltd and you can clearly see the 'AC' stamping of the letters.
Close up below of the J Fray badge lettering on the rear. The lockout is not original:-)
J Fray badge AC on the Barchetta based on a 2 litre AC. With backing plate.
Brass/Nickle with chrome plate removed
This is the Ac 2 litre badge with the chrome plate removed to reveal the metal underneath. It looks quite scruffy but I am sure this could be done to look very sharp.
Elliot Windscreen Badge
I have not seen an original one of these yet, only the aftermarket copies.
Click any of the pictures below to see a larger one. I have found 2 companies that sell these badges.
1: Finish Line Accessories. 2: Cobra Restorers LTD.
