AC ACE Radiator

The AC ACE Radiator is the same as that placed in the Ac 2 Litre. So we have liberated the radiator from our AC 2 Litre. On close inspection you can see where the tank at the bottom has bulged through overheating and limescale shows that it leaked at some of the seals.

So wants the plan for the radiator?

Bryn of  'Bryan & Son' in Tonbridge Wells is going to record the radiator and fix it all up. I was keen to keep it as original as possible and Bryan will clean, paint, solder and paint where necessary. The cost of such work is £490. There is quit  a few man hours involved. Bryan is a radiator legend and he will retire in 4 years so if you need something doing now is the time (Written 2017). His contact details opposite.

Restoring the AC Ace Radiator

The radiator for the ACE is exactly the same as the 2 litre. I had ours recored and had the distortions on the tanks sorted as it had overheated at some point in its life. The radiator was made by Marston Excelsior Ltd of Leeds, UK, for Ac Cars as the brass plates on the radiator prove.

My plan is to paint the radiator in the black colour it came out of the factory in. The brass plates and top tank will be left unpainted as will the copper overflow tube.

Radiator finished

The paint used was Eastwell Radiator Paint - gloss (Available in Matt & Satin). It takes bout 2.5 cans to get a good cover of paint. One face of the tank was left unpainted to allow the tin to show and the brass 'AC CARS' plate. The overflow pipe was not painted with and the copper allowed to show through. The original rubber washers were cleaned and soaked in oil before refitting. New stainless nuts have been placed on the bolt mountings.
