1953 AC ACE 2.0L(AC)

OUR AC ACE WHEELS

Our wheels are original AC ACE wheels and actually came of an original AC ACE - 639 UXB. The owner of the ACE, Mike Ormond had a new set of wheels built for the ACE and they went with the car when sold. The original wheels lived in a garage and Mike sold them to us. Many thanks Mike. Original AC ACE wheels are 48 spokes centre laced, with 42mm splined hubs., 16 inch wheels. Many modern replacements are 15 inch but it ruins the look in our book. You can see pictures below of our wheels when they were on the original ACE and a few close up pictures of the wheels. The splines are in great condition, no lose spokes or damaged rims as they were professionally reconditioned some years ago with subsequent little use and dry stored since.

These wheels are narrow, rare and as far as I know unavailable new unless commissioned which is very expensive (Turino Wheels quoted, 4 x 16 Ace 48 spoke wheel a set at £410 each wheel, painted or £620 each in chrome. This why many people use the stock 4.5  x 16, 56 spoke wheel at £225 ea in silver as the cost is much cheaper). The tyres on our wheels are oversize 185 R 16 with plenty of tread. The original fitment would have been 5.50 x 16. When to comes to fitting new tyres we'll go with the 5.50 x 16. Below you can see pictures of our wheels. It is going to be interesting to see what we will do with regards to the splined hubs - Rod Briggs may have them?

The picture above gives you a clear indication of the tyre tread. You'll notice one is different so we will use this as the spare.

This is where our wheels came from. The pictures below show AC ACE 639 XUB with our actual wheels fitted.

AC ACE Wheels Spinners

On the right and below thee is a selection of AC ACE & ACECA wheel spinners. Note the 'Flightless Arrow'. Originals are hard to find. Aftermarket copies are also rarely available. Holden stock them but often they are awaiting stock. Hawk cars are also a good place to source spinners but they also may be awaiting stock.

On the right. the HOLDEN spinner with 'Flighted Arrow' These were for later Cobra. Early Cobra also had 'Flightless Arrow' spinners. This is all that is out there in aftermarket parts now. If you find a set of flightless arrow spinners grab hold of them as they are very rare indeed.

AC ACE Replica Spinners from Holden

These spinners are the set we have got hold through Holden. They are often out of stock as production runs are limited. So if you are in the market for a set and they have them in stock buy them as it can take years/months for them to be back in stock.
